Âmbito da Intervenção
The modernization of the stretch on the Eastern line between Mira Sintra-Meleças and Torres Vedras includes the following work:

Construction of active diversions with a length of 16 km, for the crossing of trains. Active Diversion 1 between the
Mira Sintra-Meleças Station and the Pedra Furada secondary station and Active Diversion 2 between the Malveira Station and Pk 44+300;

Full electrification of stretch with 2 x 25KV / 50 HZ system;

Stabilization of slopes and construction of supporting walls;

Improvement of five stations and six secondary stops with the raising in height of passenger platforms and creating of access points for limited mobility passengers;

Construction of an electrical traction substation in Runa and autotransformer posts;

Automation and removal of level crossings;
-
Construction of nine split-level crossings;

Structural rehabilitation of the Sapataria tunnel and lowering of the railway platform to fit overhead contact lines in the
Sapataria, Boiaca, Cabaço and Certã tunnels;

Installation of Electronic Signaling, Telecommunications and GSM-R;
-
Installation of traction current return system and protection soil.

The conclusion of this work will improve the efficiency and competitiveness of the railway system by increasing
the capacity, safety and reliability of operations and by reducing travel times and CO2 emissions;

Increased road and rail safety as a result of removing / automating level crossings, construction of split-level
crossings and the installation of a new signaling system;

The electrification of the stretch to Caldas da Rainha will reduce travel time between Caldas da Rainha –
Lisbon and Torres Vedras. - Possibility to increase supply from 16 trains to 48 (in both directions).
